As a digital marketing professional I frequently read dozens of different blogs. I am not the sharpest tool in the shed so I rely on people much smarter than me for industry news and information. We live in a fast paced, ever changing digital age. Without these resources I would be lost a in digital marketing forest not able to to see the important trees, let alone identify them. Now that you know I need help from other experts I want to share a couple of blogs that I recommend business owners bookmark, assuming you want to learn more about SEO and digital marketing – and yes, those are two very different disciplines.
Here are 3 suggestions to add to any SEO or digital marketers reading list. I offer one each for local business SEO and digital marketing, Google Analytics and social media marketing.
SEO – Digital Marketing
Moz is the gold standard for anyone who wants to learn and stay on top of industry news. You will find good information about recent changes in best practices for local business SEO as well as in depth resources for technical issues. If you are new to SEO this might seem a bit overwhelming at first. I suggest you take one bite from the apple at a time. It can be like learning a new language. Don’t get discouraged if things don’t make sense at first. With time and practice you will be able to do your own SEO audit so that you can at least ask good questions or understand some of the suggestions you might get from your digital marketing professional.
Google Analytics
Avinash Kaushik author of Occam’s Razor is one of the industry experts when it comes to Google Analytics. If you are new to Google Analytics that’s Ok. You will find plenty of how to guides on lots of topics for basics as well as learning opportunities for more advanced users on qualitative and quantitative analysis, segmentation, channel funnels, competitive analysis and much more.
Social Media Marketing For Business
Any digital marketing effort isn’t complete without a comprehensive social media marketing campaign. This is much more than just posting meme’s and vacation photos to your personal FaceBook page. You will learn how to setup and manage Google+ pages (connected to your Google My Business account – a topic for a different post), Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube (video marketing – another post). There are also Tumblr pages and news feeds. It also involves paid advertising on certain platforms depending on your budget and goals.
Social Media Examiner is a great resource to begin to learn the basics as you gradually learn more about how to strategically plan and execute your social media digital marketing campaigns.
